Rectangular jewelery box made of solid walnut wood, inlaid with mother-of-pearl and yellow brass wire processing filigree motif, with satin kutnu lining inside.

Product Size: 22 x 14 x 9 cm.

Milas Sedef Inlaid Filigree Embroidered Box is the work of Sedefkar Bülent Usta from Gaziantep. The inside of the product is covered with a mother-of-pearl reflective satin box.

Mother-of-pearl is a hard, white and rainbow-shining, phosphoric substance found in the shells of mussels and oysters, and sea and land turtles. Aside from the charm of its pure and clear image, it is an organic stone known as healing. In order for mother-of-pearl to be used as an ornament, it must be thick enough to be processed, reflect the colors of the rainbow, and appeal to the eye with its attractiveness of colors. Mother-of-pearl, which we encounter sometimes in a full-length mirror, sometimes in a wooden jewelry box, backgammon box or coffee table, offers a simple visual feast in all kinds of decoration objects.

First of all, mother-of-pearl is an art of measurement and aesthetics. It is known that people who received architectural education in the Ottoman Period primarily received mother-of-pearl training. It is among the recorded information that a mother-of-pearl workshop was established and mother-of-pearl training was given in Topkapi Palace in the 15th century. Mother-of-pearl making, which had its most developed and productive period in the Ottoman period, is only carried out in Gaziantep in Turkey today.
